Travel to Sweden
Plane, car, ferry, train or bus: an overview of the ways to get to Sweden, with links to detailed travel guides.
There is no shortage of ways to get to Sweden. If you want to arrive quickly, take a plane. If you want to bring your own car, there are several ferry routes across the Baltic Sea, and the Øresund Bridge links Denmark with Sweden. If you prefer to travel in a more environmentally friendly way and have a little time, you can arrive by train or bus.
Car
From continental Europe, you can drive through Denmark and over the Øresund Bridge to Malmö, or take the ferry from Helsingør to Helsingborg. Alternatively, ferries sail directly from Germany to Sweden, for example from Kiel to Gothenburg and from Travemünde and Rostock to Trelleborg. Timetables and routes change, so check them directly with the ferry company before booking.
Bus
Long-distance coaches connect several German cities with Malmö, Gothenburg and Stockholm. Operators and routes change, so compare the current offers.
Train
From continental Europe, the train journey usually goes via Hamburg and Copenhagen and then over the Øresund Bridge to Malmö. From there, there are connections to Gothenburg and Stockholm. Night trains also run between Germany and Sweden, some all year round, some seasonally.
